Its a shame so many fans were lost to the lockout -- I grew up on hockey (legend has it "hockey" was my first word as a baby) so I was just glad to have my sport back.

I recommend sitting and watching either Alexander Ovechkin and the Caps or the Penguins next season (assuming the Pens keep their team intact). Ovechkin has a passion for the sport unlike anything I've ever seen, and the talent to back it up, and the Penguins as a whole are unbelievably talented and fun to watch.

I used to watch a lot of hockey back in the dominant Steve Yzerman days. Watching at least 70 Ranger games a season from 1994 - 2003. Sadly, hockey lost me after the lock-out. I hope that some day it recaptures my interest.

I was surprised his total was so low too. I figured he wouldn't win, but I didn't figure he'd get blown away.

Can't say I agree with you on him being underrated though -- but I may just be biased. I don't think he's been consistent enough through an entire season to prove anything to me -- but man, when he's on his game he's pretty unbelievable.

I can't believe Lundqvist got so little points. Definitely one of the most underrated players in the NHL. Surprising a player in the NYC market is underrated in any sport.

11 totalled, 4 of which have come in the last 11 years -- the "dynasty" term is being thrown around a LOT now. They have been absolutely DOMINANT the last few years.

Nice point about Umberger. I completely forgot about him, and he had almost as many points last round as Franzen out in Detroit.

And I agree about the Flyers -- they've cleaned up their act a lot, and when they're healthy next year I think they'll be a much better team. They were without Simon Gagne most of the season, and various other players for large chunks of the year as well -- if they can manage to stay healthy their roster is pretty formidable.

Loved the post! Great commentary.

Umberger was also conspicuously absent in this round. I almost forgot he was even playing.

Though I'm (obviously) rooting for the Pens, I definitely have to give the Flyers credit for a really great playoff run in which, for the most part, they didn't play dirty and actually made it through on talent. I think they're going to be tough to beat in the coming years. They'll be a scary team to play, and not just because of their tough guys.

I can't wait to see the Pens in the finals, and every game they do more to convince me that they're ready for the Cup. Though they obviously put the game away last night, to see how hard they fought to keep MAF's shutout... you know they're going for broke.

I see some changes afoot. I like the header, and I am looking forward to some quality hockey talk. I should be able to contribute something seeing as I have an 'x' in my last name.

Molyneux was born to play Hockey, eh?!
